Kay Butcher, Wound Care Specialist Nurse

Kay Butcher, Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse

Kay qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2002. For the first half of her career, she worked in a GP Assessment Unit, general Intensive Care and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care.

For the second half of her career she has spent time working in the community as a Community Nurse and Wound Care Nurse Specialist.

Since starting at Accelerate, Kay has developed an interest in lower limb lymphoedema and lipoedema. Kay understands the disability and stigma that can be associated with the condition and enjoys finding the right treatment and seeing the results of a bespoke plan of care for each individual patient.

Fran Campbell, Clinical Lead Podiatry & BIomechanics

Fran Campbell, Clinical lead Podiatry & BIomechanics

Fran is unique, as she is a Podiatrist with a sports medicine background, focusing on how biomechanics impacts wound healing, oedema (swelling) and tissue viability in the lower limb.

Fran has worked in a variety of areas within podiatric practice for over 15 years, including the NHS within multidisciplinary and combined rheumatology, paediatric, physiotherapy, and high-risk diabetic wound clinics. She has also worked in private practice where she was the CQC Manager, Surgical Services Manager and Lead in Gait and Biomechanics at The London Podiatry Centre.

Fran has a post graduate MSc in Clinical Biomechanics from the University of Brighton and has published research in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research and in other peer reviewed journals.

She is currently the vice Chair on the British Lymphology Society Scientific Committee. Fran’s research interests are in improving access to mobility and gait assessments for lymphoedema and wound patients through a multi-disciplinary approach involving nursing and allied health professions.

Julie Chuter, Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse

Julie qualified as a nurse in 2013 following a secondment from her role as Heath Care Assistant on an orthopaedic rehabilitation ward. She spent a year on an acute medical ward and then 8 years in the community with the district nursing team.

She developed a passion for wound care and spent 2 years running a Lower Limb Service leg ulcer clinic before starting her journey with Accelerate in 2022.

Jane Hampson – Lower Limb Nurse Specialist

Jane Hampson – Lower Limb Nurse Specialist

Jane has been a qualified nurse for over 10 years. During this time, she has worked in Accident & Emergency, community nursing and a local Leg Ulcer Service, where she developed a passion for leg ulcer care.

She joined Accelerate in 2018 as a lower limb nurse, to enhance her knowledge of leg ulcer care.

Jane has completed advanced courses on lymphoedema management, leg ulcer skills and sharp debridement with Accelerate Academy.

Rhodri Harris, Advanced Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse

Rhodri Harris, Advanced lymphoedema specialist nurse

Rhodri joined Accelerate in 2020 and before this worked as a community nurse in Wandsworth. After attending a course run by Accelerate, he developed an interest in lymphoedema and joined the team shortly after. He is now involved in teaching with the Accelerate Academy alongside seeing patients in clinic and in the community.

Rhodri’s particular interest is lipoedema. He is a member of Lipoedema UK’s clinical advisor team and is passionate about increasing awareness of this complex and misunderstood condition.

Gabriela Korn, Advanced Wound Specialist

Gabriela Korn, Advanced Wound Specialist

Gabriela started to work for Accelerate in 2019 as a Wound Nurse in the clinic team. Prior to working for Accelerate, she worked as a District Nurse and Tissue Viability Nurse in the community team in London.

She studied nursing studies in the Czech Republic and UK, then followed with a Master’s degree in tissue viability. where one of the modules was lower limb oedema management. She applies the skills and knowledge gained from the the course in her clinical practice daily.

She has been mentored in lymphoedema management by senior colleagues at Accelerate who help to enhance her knowledge in the field further.

Gaby is currently acting as Interim Clinical Lead for the wound team at Accelerate.

Wendy Lou, Lymphoedema Specialist Therapist

Wendy Lou, Lymphoedema Specialist Nurse

Wendy graduated with a degree in Physiotherapy from Brunel University. She has been working in a healthcare setting for more than 15 years. She was once a Registered Nurse, but she decided to have a career path change from the role of caring for patients to recover from ill health, to becoming a healthcare professional who has a more active role in helping patients to regain their mobility and independence during their recovery journey.

She gained valuable experience in different specialities in the NHS before she started to specialise in lymphoedema management. She has completed a Lymphoedema Rehabilitation Programme with the Lymphoedema Training Academy and is trained in Fluoroscopy Guided Medical Lymphatic Drainage (FG-MLD).

Wendy understands living with a chronic condition like lymphoedema can be challenging, she supports and empowers her clients with the knowledge they can self-care for their lymphoedema and take back control of their health.

Anna Swinburn, Advanced Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist

Anna Swinburn, Advanced Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist

Anna has worked with Accelerate’s lymphoedema service since 2016 and in that time was awarded runner up in the British Journal of Nursing’s Chronic Oedema Nurse of the Year for work supporting patients with lymphoedema.

Anna’s clinical experience focuses on community healthcare and support and treatment of the lower limb, in both wound and lymphoedema care.
