Dressing Optimisation Scheme
Delivering strong financial savings in a difficult climate and supporting specialist nurses through the use of clinical insight reports is really important to what we do
Optimising dressings: creating efficiencies where it matters
Managing and developing dressing optimisation has been at the heart of Accelerate’s mission from the very start. Beginning with our first scheme in Tower Hamlets in 2009, we’re now commissioned across nearly all boroughs in North East London (except Waltham Forest) to help commissioners and providers manage dressings and bandages efficiently.
Going beyond cost savings
For us, dressing optimisation isn’t just about cutting costs; it’s about delivering quality service. Our quick, responsive support eases the workload for clinicians and ensures patients receive the care they need. With our quarterly Clinical Insight reports, we provide Tissue Viability and Medicines Management leaders with insights that drive smarter actions and address local inequalities.

Expanding our impact across North East London
Today, we serve 1,400 active users across 541 delivery sites. We track dressing spend per person and continue to achieve reductions despite inflation. In 2023/24, our efforts led to considerable savings against the ICB budget. Looking forward, we’ll keep supporting a consistent ICB formulary, ensuring both uniformity and cost savings.
A model for economic and clinical impact
The Accelerate approach to dressing optimisation offers significant benefits for the local economy and clinicians alike. With a track record of creating savings and reinvesting into services, our Clinical Insight Reporting also addresses postcode-driven disparities, making access to care more equitable for all.
