Post-surgical, wound care and antimicrobial training especially for North East London Training Hub
There are 4 sessions on offer for various audiences:
Post-surgical wound management for all clinicians in general practice
- Post surgical wound management and cleansing
- Removal of sutures, clips and wound closure strips
- Surgical wound complications
- Surgical site infection recognition and management
Introduction to wound care for Health Care Assistants at introductory level for those with less than 18 months experience in clinical practice
- Introduction to anatomy of the skin and its function
- Learn about how wounds heal
- An overview of the TIMES principles
- Learn about following the treatment plan
- Discuss red flags and safety netting
Intermediate wound management for Health Care Assistants for those with more than 18 months experience in clinical practice
- Discover more about the anatomy of the skin and its function
- Explore how wounds heal and what delays healing
- An overview of the TIMES principles
- Learn about following the treatment plan
- Discuss red flags and safety netting
Understanding and selection of antimicrobials for Health Care Assistants
- Be familiar with the terminology used when talking about wound infection
- Recognise the risks for developing wound infection
- Be familiar with the signs and symptoms of wound infection
- Examine the appropriate use of wound dermal bed swabbing (indications and technique) and tissue sampling
- Recognise when antimicrobial treatment is indicated and on balance the importance of guardianship
- Recognise the steps required to reduce the risk of wound infection, and sepsis prevention

Terms and conditions
- Cancellation policy (DNA)
7 days’ notice must be given for cancellation so that your place can be given to someone else, copying in nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net
1st DNA: You and your Manager will receive an email informing you that you have DNA’d a pre-booked session without cancellation.
2nd DNA: You will automatically be removed from any further CPD training for the current financial year. You and your Manager will receive confirmation of this by email.
You will have an opportunity to appeal, but please read the DNA Policy – Things that count as a DNA page first. If you have to cancel your place later than 5 full working days prior to the start of the session, please email nelondonicb.cpd@nhs.net explaining your exceptional circumstances, and these will be taken into consideration when deciding whether it counts as a DNA.
- Attendees are approved based on the information supplied so this information must be accurate and truthful
- The teaching and learning materials shared with you are for your own personal development and should not be used outside of this remit without prior agreement from Accelerate
