Two top wound care and lymphoedema specialists are joining Accelerate

These key appointments are vital in supporting our growth and mission to improve the lives of people living with a wound or lymphoedema

We are thrilled to announce two exciting new appointments this Autumn adding to our known expertise and leadership in Wound Care and Lymphoedema.

These appointments will support and mentor the growth of future leaders in these fields and expand our national reach. These key appointments are vital in supporting our growth and mission to improve the lives of people living with these conditions.

Who’s joining the team?

We are proud and delighted to welcome Kate Williams as our new Associate Director of Wound Care and Rebecca Elwell as Director of National Clinical Services .

To be able to appoint individuals of the calibre of Kate and Rebecca is testament to Accelerate’s reputation for quality delivery, our aspirations and our collegiate ethos as a social enterprise. These appointments enable us to look to the future with excitement and enthusiasm. Welcome Kate and Beccy!

Kate Williams

Kate Williams joins Accelerate CIC from the University of Huddersfield where she has worked as a Senior Lecturer in Tissue Viability for 2 years, and Leeds Community Healthcare Trust where she has worked as a Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist for 12 years.

Kate’s reputation as a national leader and teacher in Tissue Viability is well known. She is currently Vice Chair of Legs Matter and a Trustee of the Society of Tissue Viability. Kate has a special interest in lower limb wounds and antimicrobial stewardship which aligns well with Accelerate’s expertise in these areas.

The whole team are absolutely delighted and keen to welcome Kate. Her leadership in wound care is much recognised and all are excited to learn from her. Kate will also support the mentorship of our growing leaders in wound care and support Accelerate’s Academy to promote best practice and leadership in wound care nationally.

Kate follows in the footsteps of Karen Staines, Director of Wound Care and Research who retired this year. We know that she will bring the leadership and experience needed to build on Karen’s work to deliver our mission.

Rebecca Elwell

Rebecca Elwell joins Accelerate from the University of North Midlands NHS Trust where she has been since 2003.

Rebecca, known as Beccy, is a well known and recognised national leader in lymphoedema. She is passionate and committed to raising awareness of the potential harm caused to this marginalised community of patients by this condition.

Beccy is a Trustee of the British Lymphology Society (BLS) and organises their annual conference, she is also a member of the BLS scientific committee and a founder member of the Children with Lymphoedema Special Interest Group.

Rebecca Elwell, Director of National Clinical Services, Accelerate

The role of Director of National Clinical Services is a new role for Accelerate and is a key appointment in increasing our national reach. Rebecca will lead on developing innovative virtual services for people with wounds and lymphoedema so that we can be there for more people that need us.

This role will also support Accelerate’s Academy to develop the education portfolio for lymphoedema as well as our framework for personalisation. I cannot think of anyone else in the UK who would fit this role better! The team are looking forward to working with Rebecca and developing under her leadership to deliver care in new ways.
